Environment and Conservation Fund Food Commons@Shatin is a community-based initiative that collects surplus food from markets and shops, redistributing it to the elderly and low-income families. By involving volunteers, recovering unsold bread, and collecting near-expiry packaged goods, the program helps reduce landfill waste while fostering a spirit of mutual support. With a two-year extension, the initiative now places greater emphasis on education - hosting food-wise talks and wet market recovery experiences to raise public awareness and encourage responsible food management. By expanding its recovery network, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and engaging people of all ages, the program aims to build a greener, more connected community where food is valued and shared.
